All right, here’s some news that’s bound to delight lovers of good cinema. The eighth edition of the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) is to be held between December 15 and 23. What’s more, the festival is set to be bigger and better this time around, thanks to the active participation of the Tamil film fraternity.
Organised by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF), the festival is being actively supported for the first time by the Film Federation of India and the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.
The state government, for its part, has sanctioned a sum of ` 25 lakh for this year’s festival. Apart from the directors, a private hospital is also donating a sum of ` 10 lakh. Around 130 films from 43 countries will be participating in this year’s festival. Four venues have been chosen for screening the films. Soul Kitchen by
Fatih Akin from Germany will be the opening film. The festival, apart from a competition section for Tamil feature films, will also have sections for World cinema (non-competitive), retrospectives, tributes, country focus, premieres and Indian Panorama. World famous sculptor Nandagopal has designed the award for the CIFF.
